The Sony FE 16mm F/1.8 G Lens is a premium ultra-wide-angle prime lens designed for Sony full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. Combining an expansive 16mm focal length with a bright F1.8 maximum aperture, this compact G Lens delivers exceptional image quality for landscapes, architecture, astrophotography, travel, street photography, vlogging, and professional video production.
The advanced optical design features 15 elements in 12 groups, including two Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements, one Super ED element, and three ED glass elements that work together to minimize field curvature, astigmatism, chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting. The result is outstanding edge-to-edge sharpness and excellent contrast across the entire frame, even when shooting wide open at F1.8.
With an 11-blade circular aperture, the FE 16mm F1.8 G produces beautifully smooth, natural-looking background bokeh despite its ultra-wide focal length. Close-up performance is equally impressive, offering a minimum focusing distance of just 0.15 m in autofocus (0.13 m in manual focus) with up to 0.30x maximum magnification, allowing dramatic wide-angle close-up compositions with excellent subject separation.
Designed for both photographers and filmmakers, the lens features dual XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors that provide fast, accurate, and virtually silent autofocus with outstanding subject tracking. Movie-focused features include reduced focus breathing, compatibility with Breathing Compensation on supported Sony Alpha cameras, Linear Response MF for precise manual focusing, and support for Active Mode image stabilization via compatible camera bodies.
Professional controls include a dedicated aperture ring with click ON/OFF switch, iris lock switch, customizable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, and a responsive manual focus ring.
